Poker Face- NaPoWriMo Poem 5

Still posting poems very late, I am afraid. But posting while traveling the wilds of Ireland is very tiresome, I must say. This one here is written for one of the bravest people I have ever known.

You are so much
Braver than you look
You are so much
Frailer than you look
When all I can do
Is listen
And not speak
In the night
That gathers close
And tears you bravely chose
Not to weep
And sorrow is
Such an ugly word
In this ugly sorrowful world.
And yet you smile and smile
At people
Less than
Half their worth.
Where did
Such a tiny girl
Learn to face off
To the big bad world?
Is this the kindness
You learnt
At the knees
Of someone
Who mattered
So much?
To hide your tears
And play a bluff
And let the world
Lean on you
To much.
Please do tell
Who taught you
To poker face so well?
His legacy seems
To carry on
In the brightness
Of your smiles
In your life
In your being
Far too nice
You are braver
Than you think
You are frailer
Than you think.
